The Monroe Doctrine

The Monroe Doctrine came about in 1823 by James Monroe when America was beginning to see itself as a major World power. It was during the Era of Good Feelings. This said that countries in the Western Hemisphere were off limits to European control. It was an American foreign policy that cut off interference with outside powers (Armstrong 113).
